SNAP 2013: Why General Awareness/GK section is Important?
General Awareness/GK section never finds a proper place in the study schedule of MBA Aspirants as they tend to ignore its importance. On the contrary, GK is the most unpredictable section of the exam as its syllabus can range from numerous subjects and various field of life. One cannot predict what questions to expect and from where in a GK section of MBA exam.
SNAP 2013 has a total of 40 questions on General Awareness/GK section out of total 180 questions. Thus, giving it the same importance as General English and Quantitative section.
Table below shows the total number of questions that appear in the General Awareness section of SNAP 2013 in comparison to its total questions.

General Awareness General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Business Scenario
General Awareness/GK section in SNAP 2013 can make or break your chances of securing high percentile or getting admission to one of the 13 Symbiosis B schools. This is much more important in exams where there is a negative marking as one needs to know the exact right answer and can’t beat around bush or assume as in case of LR or verbal sections. Each wrong answer attracts 25%negative marks in SNAP 2013.
Scoring well in entrance exams doesn’t necessitate the final selection. The real competition starts in the second phase i.e. WAT/PI stage. Candidates will be interviewed on questions ranging from their hometown to fashion industry. The panel may also ask about your viewpoints on some contemporary issues like scams and FDI or elections, etc. Apart from academic knowledge, their main focus will be on current affairs. With selection criteria changing every year, the weightage given to exam score for the final selection has lessened and more importance is being given to WAT/PI stage by IIM’s.”

Last Year General Awareness Section Analysis:
The General Awareness section in SNAP 2012 was a relief when compared to the tough paper SNAP in the previous year. There were quite a lot of easy questions from themes like Current Affairs and General questions such as the one on Olympics Tennis winner, Sushil Kumar's brand association, Royal Enfield's parent company, owners of the Delhi and Hyderabad airport etc. There were quite a number of questions on India's constitution, geography, history, economy etc which were not too difficult for a well-prepared student. Overall, the paper had more easy questions than the difficult ones.
Experts are of a view that a good time allocation strategy for this section would be around 15 minutes.
